Stomach fat seems to be the hardest type to burn and get rid of. It may feel like no matter how much exercise you do, your belly just won’t go down. That’s because you might be doing a few other things that are blocking your body’s ability to sculpt a flat stomach.
Try these 5 things and watch your stomach slim down:
1. Get Enough Magnesium
Magnesium may not be one of the minerals that is constantly on your mind when you consider what nutrition you need to cover, but the truth is that it should be. Your body needs magnesium for various functions to run properly, and it even helps you lose weight and have less bloating.
What you need to do is try to eat more foods that are rich in magnesium. This means upping your intake of leafy greens, nuts, but preferably both. If you feel like eating enough of these foods is difficult for your lifestyle, take a magnesium supplement. You’ll want 310-320 milligrams per day depending on your age.
2. Exercise Strategically
For some reason the way our minds think when it comes to having a flat stomach is more and more cardio. While it is a good type of exercise, overall, it will not give you the flat belly you want, on its own.
You need to be more purposeful with the moves you do if you want to have a flat tummy. Use your cardio more effectively by practicing high interval training, and add strength training moves into your routine, as well.
3. Get to Sleep
Sleep has an effect on basically all aspects of your body and life, if you haven’t already noticed. Having a flat stomach is yet another one of those things. When you don’t get enough sleep, your body stores more fat in your stomach and it’s harder to get rid of.
Do whatever you can to get your proper amount of sleep, which will be somewhere between seven and nine hours. Try to keep your bedroom as dark as possible, unplug from electronics before getting into bed, stop eating close to your sleeping time, and even put some relaxing music on if it will help you.
4. Let Go of Salt
Salt leaves you feeling bloated, it’s a universal phenomenon. When you eat too much sodium, the water in your body gets pushed from your blood to your skin, which causes the puffy feeling and look.
If you can, cut it out all together. Stop adding it to your food, and avoid all processed foods which always contain a lot of sodium. You will see a big difference with just this one change.
5. Stop the Soda
Not only are drinking and wasting your calories when you sip soda, but the calories are causing the addition of more fat to accumulate in your stomach area.
Stick to water for all of your liquid consumption. If you really feel the need to have some kind of flavor in your drinks, try adding fresh fruit to your water.
Just by changing these small habits, you will be much closer to having the flat stomach you desire.
